Strength Coaching For Golfers…

…Improve your golf potential with one-to-one online coaching.

Dear Golfer,

Consider the following formula…

Power = Force x Velocity

As we age, we lose the ability to move fast more than any other physical attribute.

This is why we don’t see 40 year old winners of the Olympic 100 meter sprint.

Therefore, if you are a golfer and you still want to maintain a decent swing speed as you age, you need to train for strength.

The good news is that it is possible to gain significant strength into your 70s if you have never trained, or if it’s been years since you have.

The best way to improve your overall strength is through legitimate barbell training.

Consider the chart below.

Deadlift Strength Standards

The average untrained 200 pound male in his 50s can only deadlift 120 pounds.

At the same time, the novice trainee in the same age group can deadlift nearly twice that amount.  This only takes about 4 to 6 months to achieve.

And after just those few months of training, you now have greater potential to generate power with your golf swing.

What is legitimate strength training?

weight lifting for golfersLegitimate strength training involves training compound movements with barbells.

The four best exercises for developing overall, general strength are the squat, deadlift, bench press and overhead press.

These exercises are the best because…

  • They involve basic human movement patterns
  • They involve multiple joints and muscle groups
  • They can be loaded with the most weight compared to other exercises
  • They can be trained safely with a wide therapeutic window (a wide range of dosage)

A basic training program involves training three days per week with three exercises per workout.

Once you get through what we refer to as the Novice Linear Progression (NLP), i.e., the beginner time frame where you make the most strength gains, you can change up your training.

During golf season, or once you complete the NLP, you can train as little as two days per week and still make progress, or at least maintain your new found strength.

Why Online Coaching?

Online coaching is on the cutting edge of personal training.  Here are a few benefits…

  • You no longer need to schedule a time to meet your trainer
  • You can train when you want
  • You can train where you want
  • Your coach can then provide you feedback on their own schedule

Our online coaching is performed through the Turnkey Coach app.

Once you get signed up, we’ll have a coaching call to discuss how to start.

Each week you will then be provided with your workout plan, which will include exercises to train, the weight on the bar, number of sets and number of reps.

You have the option to upload a video of your last working set of each exercise for review to be sure your form is sound and to help determine any needed changes in your programming.
