Equipment I Use

The equipment listed on this page is the equipment I personally use in my garage gym, or is similar to my own equipment.

Barbells

This Cap Barbell 300 pound Olympic weight set is the most similar to what I have in my garage gym, given the handles.

I don’t have great plate storage, so plates with handles make it easier to pick them up.

Amazon has plenty of other options, but this set is a good place to start browsing.  Just click on the link below the image to get the details.

Marcy Home Gym Cage

You are going to need a basic squat rack, or preferably a power rack with lat pulldown.

I have this Marcy Home Gym Cage in my garage, mainly because it was the only one I could find that would fit, due to the short ceiling in my garage.

The unit is fairly light weight, and I was actually able to put it together by myself, which was a minor miracle as I am not known for my mechanical skills.

It offers a pull-up station, dip bars and a pulley system that allows you to do lat pulldowns and seated rows.

Oh, and be sure to ignore that pathetic squat form in the image!

Nordic Lifting Shoes

If you plan on training with barbells, weightlifting shoes are an absolute necessity, as they provide you with a more stable platform than sneakers.

I purchased these Nordic Lifting Shoes almost a year ago and they have worked well for me.

Dominion Strength Training Lifting Belt

The last critical piece of equipment needed for serious barbell training is a weightlifting belt.

These belts provide critical support to your back and abdomen and help prevent injuries.

I recently purchased this Dominion Belt and it provides great support.  It is very well made and sturdy.

Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbells

Adjustable dumbbells are an excellent accessory tool to complement your barbell training.

They are also useful for people who are just starting out on the strength training journey, and may not be ready for barbells.

I purchased my set of Bowflex Adjustable dumbbells in 2024, and they’ve been used a ton.  That speaks to the sturdiness of the product.
